Moreland City Council won the 2017 UNAA Climate Action Awards for Clean Energy Action for their Enabling Community Tenants to Access Solar project.
This innovative project, which was delivered in partnership with Moreland Energy Foundation (MEFL), has enabled community groups leasing properties from Moreland Council to install solar through a finance mechanism which means they save money from day one. To date seven community groups have benefited from this program, installing almost 400 panels which will deliver savings of almost $30,000 for these groups every year.
Enabling these groups to generate solar energy will also help to deliver Moreland’s Zero Carbon Evolution strategy which has an ambitious goal of reducing the municipality’s community carbon emissions by 22% by 2020.
