Light$mart for business

Moreland City Council and the Australian Energy Foundation are supporting businesses to upgrade their lighting to LEDs with the Light$mart program. Moreland businesses can access a discount of up to 10% of the total project cost towards the cost of switching to LED lights (capped at $5000). This discount is on top of the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Certificate rebates (up to 70% off purchases).

As well as reducing energy costs for lighting by up to 80% replacement of halogen or fluorescent lights with LEDs will save on maintenance costs as they have a lifetime of approx 5,000 hours (compared to 10,000-20,000 hours for halogen or fluorescent).

The previous round of this program helped 8 local businesses save thousands of dollars on their energy bills and save over 200 tonnes of carbon every year.

Coburg North based Thycon Industries were one of those who took action in the first round of Light$mart. They are Australia’s leading manufacturer of industrial power quality and conversion solutions. With their large warehouse spaces and long operating hours, the opportunity to upgrade to LED lighting was an easy way to improve the business’ bottom line. The program helped Thycon to changed over 300 lights, saving $15,426 every year. Overall, the upgrade will lead to a reduction in energy consumption of over 60%.
